Population size and change in Switzerland in 2023: definitive figures

On 31 December 2023, Switzerland's permanent resident population was 8 962 300, which was 1.7% more than in 2022. It is the biggest growth in population recorded since the early 1960s. Between 2022 and 2023, immigration figures rose sharply, mainly due to the inclusion of people from Ukraine with protection status S. At the same time, the ageing of the population continued.
