Statistics on social assistance recipients

The statistics on social assistance recipients (hereinafter: social assistance statistics) provide information on, among other things, the social assistance rate and the number of social assistance recipients, including economic social assistance, social assistance in the refugee sector, social assistance in the asylum sector, and means-tested social benefits for poverty reduction.

The data are collected monthly. In addition to basic data on individuals and social assistance files, accounting data are transmitted to the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) where they are harmonized to ensure comparability. Statistical matching allows the use of information from other statistical sources in order to further reduce the burden on data providers and to promote the multiple uses of statistical data.
