In 2023, 249 700 persons in Switzerland received social assistance in the form of a financial benefit on at least one occasion. In comparison with the previous year, this represented a decline of 0.1 percentage points in the social assistance rate, to 2.8%. This was the lowest level since 2005 and can be explained by positive labour market conditions in 2023.
