Marked increase in the number of psychiatric patient readmissions
Neuchâtel, 14.11.2008 (Obsan) - The Swiss Health Observatory (Obsan) commissioned a study of the development of inpatient psychiatric care in Switzerland. The study shows that while the number of treatments-measured by the number of inpatient admissions-has risen by 9.3% since 2002, the number of treated patients has remained constant at approximately 50,000 people per year. This trend-more treatment cases and a constant number of patients-is attributable to markedly more frequent patient readmissions (up 30%) and shorter hospital stays.
