Stable prices - new index base December 2010 = 100

Neuchâtel, 23.02.2011 (FSO) - The Producer and Import Price Index calculated by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) rose only slightly in January 2011 by 0.1% compared with the previous month. The index stands at 100.1 points (new base December 2010 = 100). The prices of domestically produced products rose by 0.1%, whereas those of imported products remained stable overall. Year on year, the price level of the whole range of domestic and imported products remained stable.

The Producer and Import Price Index has been converted to the new index base of December 2010 = 100. As of December 2010, the revised index is calculated on a new methodological basis as well as with updated product and weighting tables (see text box).
