2024: A highly contrasted agricultural year

19.11.2024 - In 2024, Swiss agriculture is expected to generate a gross value added of CHF 4.6 billion, an increase of 3.4% compared with the previous year. Although total output remained stable (‒0.4%), there were contrasting trends in different sectors. Cereal harvests were poor owing to frequent rainfall, while the market conditions for pork improved. Production costs exhibited a downward trend. These initial estimates for the current year are based on the Economic Accounts for Agriculture compiled by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
