In 2025, a total of 214 people lost their lives on the roads: 59 were travelling by car, 49 by motorbike, 39 on foot, 24 on an e‑bike, 20 on a bicycle and 23 using other modes of transport.
Between 1992 and around 2015, the number of fatalities decreased across almost all of these means of transport and travel – particularly among occupants of passenger cars. The exception is the e-bike, which is a relatively new means of transport.
As regards those seriously injured, a marked decline is also evident in the passenger car category when comparing figures over time. Since 2009, the annual number of serious injuries has been lower among occupants of passenger cars than among motorcyclists.
The chart begins in 1992, when the injury definitions underwent a major revision. It should be noted, however, that a considerable number of cases involving minor injuries are likely to go unreported and are thus not recorded by the police.
