In 2024/25, 6 081 students participated in mobility to or from a university or institute of technology (UIT). In almost half of the cases (43%), a Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) was involved. 26% of flows went from a cantonal university to an ETH, mainly from the University of Zurich to the ETHZ (17%) and from the University of Lausanne to the EPFL (8%), which is due to the geographical proximity and close cooperation between these higher education institutions. 14% of flows went in the opposite direction, mainly from the ETHZ to the University of Zurich (9%) and from the EPFL to the University of Lausanne (4%). Mobility between the ETHs stood at 3%. The most important mobility flows not involving an ETH took place within the two cooperation networks Triangle Azur with 8% (Geneva, Lausanne, Neuchâtel, of which 5% between the Universities of Geneva and Lausanne) and BeNeFri with 12% (Bern, Neuchâtel, Fribourg, of which 8% between the Universities of Bern and Fribourg). Flows to or from a UTE accounted for 15% of the total.
