In the poverty statistics, employed persons are all persons aged 18 or older who during the calendar year prior to the interview were mostly, i.e. for more than half of all months, either employed or self-employed. Unemployed persons are considered to be all persons who were mostly unemployed during the calendar year prior to the interview. Pensioners, persons in training, persons who are not able to work and other persons who are not professionally active are classified as economically inactive persons. The determining factor is each individual's self-assessment, i.e. the self-declared activity status of the person concerned.
