Social protection functions

Social protection functions

The functions of social protection correspond to the categories of needs and risks which social benefits intend to cover. There are eight social protection functions: sickness/healthcare, disability, old age, survivors, family/children, unemployment, housing and social exclusion (not otherwise classified). It should be noted that education is not considered as a social protection function.
