The Federal Council today approved Switzerland's 2026 voluntary national review on the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda and the goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS 2030). The Federal Statistical Office (FSO) publishes the statistical annex in parallel with the national review.

The annex provides a quantitative analysis of progress towards the sustainable development goals in Switzerland. Particular attention is paid to monitoring of the progress towards the 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy (2030 SDS) and to cross-border or "spillover effects', referring to Switzerland's impact beyond its borders. Sustainable development does not stop at national borders: in a globalised world, our methods of production, consumption, and the decisions taken in Switzerland have an impact on other countries and the global implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

The quantitative analysis is based on a selection of indicators from the MONET 2030 sustainable development monitoring system, supplemented by additional statistical information. Overall, the indicator trends paint a mixed picture. Progress is being made in the fields of renewable energy and gender equality, for example. However some setbacks have been observed, for example in terms of declining biodiversity and a rise in the number of violent offences and cases of discrimination.

In July 2026, the voluntary national review and its statistical annex will be officially presented at the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York.
