Acceptance of the plurality of funeral rites

Integration indicator

This indicator provides information on the opinion of the population with regard to the funeral rites of various religious and spiritual communities.

In terms of integration, the aim is to increase the acceptance of the plurality of funeral rites.

Key findings: People with a migration background are more in favour of allowing all religious or spiritual communities to perform their funeral rites than people without a migration background.

Trends over time: Between 2014 and 2019, the share of persons who are in favour of religious or spiritual communities being allowed to practise their own funeral rites has increased in the population without a migration background, while it has remained stable in the population with a migration background, regardless of the generation.

Due to changes in methodology, the 2024 results are not comparable with those of previous years.

Major regions: In the Lake Geneva region, the Espace Mittelland, as well as North-western and Eastern Switzerland, people with a migration background are significantly more supportive of allowing different religious or spiritual communities to conduct funeral rites than people without a migration background.
