Difficulty making ends meet

Integration indicator

This indicator provides information on a household's level of difficulty in covering basic expenses.

From an integration perspective, the aim is to decrease the percentage of the population living in a household that has difficulty making ends meet.

Key findings: People living in a household with a migration background are twice more likely to have difficulty making ends meet than people living in a household without such a background.

Trends over time: Between 2014 and 2021, the proportion of people living in a household experiencing difficulties in making ends meet decreased among the population without a migration background. Since 2021, this proportion has increased again. Among the population with a migration background, it tends to decline.

Major regions: In most major regions, people with a migration background are significantly more likely to live in a household that struggles to make ends meet than people without a migration background, with the exception of Zurich and Ticino.
