Support from others

Integration indicator

This indicator shows the share of people who state they could get moral, material or financial support from family members, friends or neighbours if they needed it.

From an integration perspective, an increase in the share of people who could get support from others indicates an improved situation.

Key findings: People with a migration background are less likely to get support when needed than those without a migration background. A lower level of support is observed, in particular among first-generation individuals with a migration background.

Trends over time: Since 2016, the share of people reporting that they can rely on support from others has decreased significantly among people without a migration background. This share has remained stable among the population with a migration background, despite a significant increase among first-generation individuals.

Major regions: In the Lake Geneva region, the Espace Mittelland, as well as in North-western and Eastern Switzerland, the share of people who can receive help from others when needed is significantly lower among the population with a migration background than among those without a migration background. The largest significant gap is observed in the Lake Geneva region.
