Acceptance of diversity

Integration indicators

This indicator provides information on the population's openness to people perceived as different due to their skin colour, religion or itinerant way of life.

From an integration perspective, the aim is to increase the proportion of people who are open to diversity.

Key findings: The population with a migration background is more open to diversity – meaning they are less disturbed by people perceived as different due to their religion, way of life or skin colour – than people without a migration background.

Trends over time: Between 2018 and 2022, there has been a noticeable increase in the percentage of people accepting diversity in their everyday lives in across all population groups.

Since 2022, the proportion of people accepting diversity in their everyday life has decreased significantly among the population with a migration background and has remained stable among the population without such a background. The gap between both population groups has thus narrowed.

Language regions: In German-Romansh- and Italian-speaking Switzerland, the population without a migration background is significantly less open to diversity in everyday life than in the French-speaking Switzerland.
