In the economy as a whole (private and public sector), women earned on average 15.7% less (arithmetic mean) than their male colleagues in 2024 (2022: 16.2%, 2020: 18.0%; 2018: 19.0%).
The gender wage gap is partly due to structural differences related to the characteristics of the person and the job held, as well as their field of activity. However, some of the differences remain unexplained. If we compare the wages of women and men with the same structural profile, in 2024 the unexplained share was 46.9% for the economy as a whole, compared with 48.2% in 2022, 47.8% in 2020 and 45.4% in 2018.
