Accidents (traffic)

Accidents (traffic)
The term "accident" is defined differently depending on the mode of transport: Road traffic: All accidents on public roads and places involving personal injury are recorded. The category of injured persons includes all persons with injuries, regardless of the severity of the injuries (see "Injured persons, road traffic"). Rail transport: All accidents in which at least one person is injured or killed, which significantly disrupt traffic or which cause at least CHF 100,000 in property damage are recorded. Persons whose treatment requires hospitalisation for more than 24 hours are listed as "injured". Persons whose injury resulted in their death within 30 days of the accident are listed as "person killed". Persons who have committed suicide do not count as "persons killed". Air traffic: All accidents involving commercial and non-commercial civilian aircraft registered in Switzerland which are reported to the Federal Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau are counted. Also included are all foreign aircraft that have an accident on Swiss territory. Persons with serious injuries count as injured persons.
