Civic life

Integration indicators

While only Swiss citizens can participate in federal votes, anyone who has lived in Switzerland for some time can engage with Swiss politics in a broader sense. Indicators relating to confidence in Switzerland's state institutions and authorities, as well as equality of opportunity between Swiss nationals and foreign nationals, help to understand the integration of different population groups into civic life.

Hauptergebnisse

Key findings

People without a migration background are more likely to participate in associations or groups and to report active citizenship than those with a migration background. In contrast, the first generation has greater confidence in the political system and the police than both the second or subsequent generations, or the population without a migration background. Finally, second and subsequent generations are more supportive of equal opportunities than the first generation or the population without a migration background.
