Social cohesion
Encouraging people from different backgrounds to interact and coexist ‒ and thus integrate ‒ requires an open and inclusive society that is free from discrimination, exclusion and segregation. The social cohesion indicators measure and describe this social climate. They help to understand social cohesion in a diverse society such as Switzerland’s. Two of these indicators focus on crime, which is considered symptomatic of a lack of social cohesion and difficulty integrating.

Hauptergebnisse
Key findings
The population with a migration background, particularly the 1st generation, is more accepting of diversity in everyday life than the population without a migration background. It is also more accepting of the plurality of funeral rites. People with a migration background are also much more likely to state they have experienced racial discrimination than people without a migration background. People from the first generation are less likely to state that they can get support from others if needed than the second generation or those without a migration background. Finally, there is no significant difference between population groups in how secure they feel.
