Median, middle value, quantile

Median, middle value, quantile

The middle or median value is the value that divides the statistical population under observation into two equally sized groups ordered by increasing wage level. For one half of jobs (50%), the standardised wage is above this value, for the other half it is below it.

Quantiles are also calculated according to this logic. The quartiles (Q1, Q2, Q3) divide the statistical population under observation into four equally sized groups.
