An analysis by sector of activity shows that enterprise groups create value added mainly in the ‘Wholesale trade’ (24.2%) and ‘Manufacturing: other’ (18.6%) sectors. Foreign-controlled multinationals dominate this first sector by a wide margin, with 78% of GVA, while Swiss multinationals lead in the second, although the dominance is less clear-cut. In fact, domestically-controlled multinationals tend to be more prevalent in the ‘Metals, instruments, electronics, machinery’ sector (64.3%) or in the ‘Trade without wholesale’ sector (60.5%).
