Imports and exports in goods transport by rail by country

In cross-border rail freight, Germany is Switzerland’s leading counterpart in terms of both exports and imports. Belgium and Italy follow at a considerable distance, especially in terms of imports. On the export side, Germany’s dominance is slightly less pronounced.

This analysis is based on the countries in which freight trains are actually loaded or unloaded, which do not necessarily correspond to the actual countries of origin or final destination of the goods.
