Diagnosis related group (DRG) payment system has not led to early discharges or increase in hospital readmissions

Neuchâtel, 21.06.2011 (Obsan) - A new study from the Swiss Health Observatory (Obsan) concludes that the DRG-based payment system introduced in some Swiss hospitals between 2002 and 2008 has not led to a decline in quality: patients being discharged too early or an increase in hospital readmissions due to insufficient hospital care have not been observed. These results are important with regard to the coming year, as a new DRG-based payment system will be introduced nationwide at the start of 2012.
