Gini index (or coefficient)

Gini index (or coefficient)
The Gini index (or coefficient) is a measure of inequality that takes into account the entire income distribution in the population (income, wages, standard of living, etc.). It shows the extent of inequality on a scale from 0 to 1 (or 100). An index of 0 represents total equality (everyone has the same income), while an index of 1 represents total inequality (all income is earned by one person). The higher the Gini index, the greater the inequality.
