The data includes from the reference year 2018 onwards (and unless otherwise stated) all new civilian vehicles put into circulation in Switzerland during the respective period, including vehicles with a holder address abroad. Slightly different definitions apply to earlier years. Please note the relevant information in the tables and graphs.
Due to late registrations, vehicle register entries for new registrations in a specific period are subject to minor changes even months later. In order to provide figures that are as complete as possible and comparable over time, the FSO publishes certain tables and graphs with late registrations and others without. Please pay attention to the relevant notes.
From the reference year 2018 onwards, the canton has been determined according to the information on the number plate. In the years up to and including 2017 the canton was determined based on the holder's address.
