Demographic forecasts (scenario)

Demographic forecasts (scenario)
Demographic forecasts, also called scenarios, are used to describe possible population and private household trends at national and cantonal level. A demographic forecast is the translation into population numbers by sex and by age, of hypotheses on future trends in fertility, mortality and migration. Hypotheses are established for each canton on the basis of hypotheses used in the latest national forecasts. Hypotheses on future trends in internal migration are established specifically for regional scenarios. Trends in the number of households are determined by applying rates for different household categories to the populations calculated in the demographic forecasts.
