Goods transport performance by road and rail

In 2024, transport performance of 26.1 billion tonne-kilometres was generated in road and rail goods transport. One tonne-kilometre equates to the transport of one tonne of goods over a distance of one kilometre. In 2024, 63% of overland transport performance was generated by road vehicles, 37% by rail.

Since 2005, transport performance by road and rail has remained more or less stable. The share of rail transport has changed very little.
