MA: proportion of people receiving maintenance advances by canton and in Switzerland

Over a period of two years (2024–2025), around 1,000 data suppliers were gradually connected to new processes. Both old and modernised data formats were processed – the modernised formats were often incomplete in the first year. The FSO compensated for this with weightings and at the same time introduced methodological improvements. Due to the modernization of the Statistics on social assistance recipients the results for 2025 are no longer directly comparable with those of previous years (break in the time series). See the Methodology report, only in German and French, on the website Statistics on social assistance recipients(https://www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/en/home/statistics/social-security/surveys/shs.html). In the canton of Ticino, the number of social assistance cases in 2024 is around 200 too high due to the first-time delivery of data for the modernised social assistance statistics. The results 2025 for the cantons of Nidwalden, Basel-Stadt, St. Gallen, Jura, Valais and Graubünden should be interpreted with caution due to statistical uncertainties associated with relatively high weighting factors. In the latter two cantons, these elevated weighting factors are attributable to missing data deliveries, whereas in the other cantons concerned they are mainly due to a relatively late transition to the new data collection system.
